Ghost Rider is the alias used by a famous but controversial Swedish motorcycle stuntman. Wearing a black leather suit, black helmet and dark visor, and riding a black motorcycle (usually a Suzuki GSX-R1000 or Hayabusa), he is the main character in several movies showing his real-life motorcycle stunts performed on public roads at high speeds and with blatant disrespect for the police and his own safety, usually in Stockholm and nearby locations, but also in other places in Europe.

Controversy regarding identity
In November 2005, the Swedish magazine Slitz published an interview with the (alleged) Ghost Rider, "a talkative foreign stunt rider nearly 40 years old."[1]
In an interview with PB Magazine, one Patrik Furstenhoff has claimed to be the real Ghost Rider.[2] Furstenhoff holds the world record for the fastest wheelie on a motorcycle.[3]
It has been alleged that Ghost Rider is in reality several people under the same alias. Unverified but fairly widespread, it is believed that motorcycle racer Joakim Karlsson a.k.a. Iceman was one of the actors playing the character, although he never declared such a thing himself, at least not in a way that can be verified and referenced.[4] Karlsson lost his life in May 2005 during the Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) race.[5]
That Ghost Rider's true identity is in disarray is no doubt deliberate and quite understandable - Ghost Rider performs his stunts (high speed races usually) on public roads, in violation of the law. But the character Ghost Rider has a very distinct and clearly defined personality and is still as active today as almost a decade ago, and his popularity is growing, especially among sportbike riders. The confusion surrounding him is an integral part of the "show", much like a stage magician's aura of mystery, as indicated by the myths spawned by his character.[6]
Stunts
Ghost Rider's stunts appear to be staged and prepared in an elaborate fashion. He seems to be supported by a number of assistants, waiting for him to appear in various places on the established route and capturing his actions on video. Also, the stuntman's motorcycle is equipped with a video camera (or more than one), recording video from a first-person perspective. All the video sources are later combined and edited, producing movies which are unlike the typical motorcycle "stunter" videos; from a purely technical perspective, their quality is better than the average amateur video material on the Internet.
The typical themes of such stunts include: very high speed road racing in the city or on the intercity highways, chasing or being chased by the police, performing burnouts in public places, performing wheelies or stoppies, etc.
The Ghost Rider videos
Several movies by Ghost Rider have been released on DVD.[7] Brief episodes are available for download on the Internet.
Ghost Rider 1, The Final Ride (2002)
It includes the famous Uppsala Run: a race between Stockholm and Uppsala on the public highway, in traffic, the distance being 68 km (42 miles), in less than 15 minutes (14:55 actual time). The average speed was 273 km/h (170 mph). At times the speed gauge on the motorcycle can be seen indicating 299 km/h (186 mph) but that's just the maximum value that can be indicated on that particular type of motorcycle, since it's sold electronically limited to not go faster; the actual speed was probably higher than that, with the speed limiter very likely removed.
Ghost Rider 2 Goes Wild (2003)
Ghost Rider 3 Goes Crazy In Europe (2004)
The first stunts outside Sweden. Includes slapstick comedy scenes such as the pocket bike racing in Paris, or running in a straitjacket on a bridge across the river Seine.
Ghost Rider 4 Goes Undercover (2005)
Includes another attempt at breaking the record of the first Uppsala Run, this time at 4:30pm in rush hour traffic, on a 285 bhp turbocharged Suzuki GSX-R1000, capable of doing 340 km/h (211 mph).
Ghost Rider 5, Back To Basics (2008)
Builds upon the first Ghost Rider video, this time including car racing (for the first time, Ghost Rider on four wheels), sledding (!) hitched to a car, motorcycle racing on the Nurburgring race track, an alleged "murder attempt" by the Swedish police on Ghost Rider, the usual road racing and stunting, etc.
